Essential Arrival: Documentary Examines Michigan’s Indian Immigrant Population

Oct.312014 Filed under: College of Arts Sciences and letters Faculty Research Metropolitan Impact

Be proud of where you come from, but acclimate to your new culture.

It’s a common message many immigrants hear–and one Dr. Arifa Javed knows well. The University of Michigan-Dearborn sociology lecturer immigrated to the U.S. in 1995 and has studied the immigrant experience for two decades. Those studies have focused largely on the paces and patterns of acculturation, as well as the mutually beneficial relationship between the US and its immigrant population.

Lansing Festival Pictures

Hello,

I am a sociology professor, and I recently made a documentary film about the recent wave of Indian immigration to America. The film premiered at the East Lansing Film Festival in Nov. 2014, and I am now seeking distribution. I believe the film can be an interesting experience for average Americans looking to learn about immigration and a useful educational tool in schools and colleges. Attached is more information about the film and the filmmakers. If you are interested in discussing further, I can be reached at: arifakjaved@comcast.net or 734 397 8754

Thank you,

Dr. Arifa K. Javed
